Baby Shower

So for the last week I have been giving some thought to my daughters baby shower. Doing bits of preparation shopping here and there. As she is expecting a boy I have gone for the very predictable blue theme. It was supposed to be a nautical theme as the cake that is coming is all nautical with anchors and boats however my decor isn't quite living up to the vivid image I had in my head, oh well I'm sure no one will judge me too harshly. Who knew preparing for such a short event of just a few hours in an afternoon could be such hard work. So the invitations were all sent ages ago and a facebook event created by my daughter which I have accidentally locked myself out of, I have no sure idea of the actual number of guests coming! Well thats what happens when a technophobe accidentally clicks the decline button on a facebook event, you can't get back in again, beware people never hover your mouse, once that decline button has been clicked you are out, you are not coming, even if you change your mind. We tried, my daughter tried to re-add me but nothing is working! So now according to facebook, the host and nanny to be isn't even coming to the baby shower she is working so hard on. When did life get so complicated?
The date is set for this coming Sunday 1st September.
The weather has been attrocious so what was meant to have been a lovely outdoor patio gathering has now hastily been replanned and set up in the house. My friday night was spent hanging bunting from window pole to window pole and any other high item I could hook on and preparing favour bags. Scissors, blue tissue paper and blue string everywhere. Not to mention being totally puffed out through blowing up blue balloons and climbing up on chairs to hang the decorations. Maybe this job should have been delegated to a younger person with nanny to be supervising. Is it me or has the competition for throwing the best baby shower got way out of hand now?
Of course my trusted friend google has been with me every step of the way, constantly giving me new ideas on what games to play and little quirky ideas for the table decorations and favours. How on earth did we all manage when there was no google? trust me I remember this time well! Its a fabulous tool, but at the same time it can makes me feel a little inadequate. I spend ages thinking of a nice little idea and then bamb! there it is already on google done by someone else already and better!
Today Saturday will be spent filling favour bags with blue tissue and carefully placing the gifts of blue bubble bath, incense sticks and and candles in for the receiver to enjoy a relaxing evening as thanks for their gifts. Also today I will be shopping for food and I was supposed to be shabby chic-ing an old rocking chair I brought second hand that I had intended to make gorgeous for the babies nursery, time is running out, I may not complete that yet. Oh well back in the garage it goes.
Then tomorrow having a very good tidy up in time for the guests to arrive.
What ever you are up to this weekend everyone, enjoy it and good luck if you are also having a baby shower.
