Preparing the Nursery

My daughter is lucky enough to live in a lovely little house and she has a room especially for baby. I realise not everyone is as fortunate to be in that situation. I myself when my daughter was a baby had very little money and had to rent out two rooms in my house to make ends meet. So I had no nursery and had just a little space in my bedroom for baby with the cot at the bottom of the bed. So if you are in this situation please don't be distressed it really doesn't matter as long as baby has you that is the only thing that is important. Babies are such beautifully simple miracles, they just want to be loved and cared for and they won't care if they sleep in a simple moses basket, a pram carrycot or a travel cot or whether you have the finances to buy a fabulous super duper cot. They simply want to feel snug and secure. He or she won't remember where they slept when they get older. Nursery's whilst lovely to have are more for the parents that the baby at this stage. My grandson too will be sleeping in my daughters room for the first few months of his life. She has brought one of these new Chicco Next2me cribs that pulls right up to the side of the parents bed and even the side panel unzips and attaches to the bed. How fabulous is that. At first I was a bit wary of it, well you know us oldies it always takes us a while to get used to changes. But once it was set up and I could see how great it is, well now I'm a total fan. I remember when Ellie was a baby and I had her carrycot pulled right up next to my bed as well. I didn't want to be apart from her for a second and wanted her as close to me as possible in a safe way.
Anyway having the benefit of an empty bedroom we have been busy preparing the nursery and Ellie has chosen Navy and White as the decoration theme. I have to say I love it, its clean and simple. Lovely fresh white painted walls and furniture with White wooden flooring. It doesn't have to cost a fortune the drawers were a pine set that were re-painted and the wooden knobs I painted in navy to match the decoration. Its amazing what you can do on a budget if you have to.
Lots of bits and bobs for baby's nursery can come from baby shower gifts as well. If you know you are going to be using a moses basket or a pram for baby to sleep in, then you can ask for bedding and let people know the specific sizes you need and the colours you want. I was looking for bedding to fit the Chicco Next2me when I realised that there really wasn't alot of choice for this particular size and so I set my mind to creating some bedding especially for this crib.
